I snapped this pic with my iPhone a couple of days ago. Nicholas(the big one), upon seeing his brother for the first time since he woke up, said "Daddy I hold him?" He sat there and hugged and kissed him for about a half hour before he said "ok Nick done now".

Since a lot of people have asked what that is I guess I will fill them in. It is called a Wallaby® 3 Phototherapy System. It is for helping babies with Jaundice get rid of the Bilirubin in their systems.

It is normal for newborns to have bilirubin in their systems as their extra red blood cells they had while still unborn die off. It is responsible for the yellow colour of bruises and the yellow discolouration in jaundice.

John had slightly elevated levels due to bruising while being born and because his blood type is different than my wife's. Rather than leave him in the Hospital we opted to bring him home and do the therapy ourselves.

As of Friday he was taken off the light and we will find out later today if his levels are still low enough to be considered healthy.

On November 2nd the first time it was 1:52 AM John Lee Shives was born. Eight minutes later it was 1:00 AM and it would be another 52 minutes until his birth time. So we sorta got to celebrate his birthday already, twice.

7 lbs 7.6 Oz and 18.5 inches long.

Throwing wood when it's 100F outside, stacking that wood in a shed with a metal roof, not spending time with your family when you want to, spending time alone when you want to and knowing your family wants to spend time with you, and last but not least having to punish your kids.

Just happens to be a PS3. We finally decided to bite the bullet and get one. The price dropped $100 and we had a $115 gift card for Best Buy. We got the 80 gig version. The way this thing looks with the HDMI hooked into my Plamsa is awsome. We also picked up the Planet Earth Series. Some of the shots are just amazing while others are so so.

The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups of Coffee

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the was jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous "Yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things--- God, your family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions--- and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter-- your job, your house, and your car.
The sand is everything else--- the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

Oh well here goes.

I always thought that blogging was something that people did because they had to many opinions. I thought that people who blogged fit a certain stereotype. I thought that I would never blog...

Funny how that works out, huh? LOL

I realized that this this would be a pefect way to vent about stuff and feel better. Some stuff may be interesting and some stuff not so much. Random pictures here and there may appear of family, friends, and places that I have been.
